Prerequisites
This class requires a laboratory experience of at least one year, because students need to have already experienced experimental design and execution, as well as data processing and presentation. The class is therefore suited to students in their 2nd year of the Master Course, already advanced in their experimental thesis.

Course objectives

This course aims to provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge about the scientific method, with a specific focus on writing scientific papers. Students will learn how to write an abstract, an introduction, the results section, and a discussion. The course will also cover how to prepare figures, delineate methods, and format the bibliography. Additionally, different communication formats, such as formal correspondence and electronic mail, will be considered.

At the end of the course, students will have developed the skills necessary to write a scientific paper. They will have learned how to compose an abstract, introduction, results section, and discussion, as well as how to prepare figures, delineate methods, and format the bibliography. Course delivery

The course will be delivered with 50% of the time covering the basic theoretical knowledge required for writing a scientific paper, including the structure and key components such as the abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. The remaining 50% will be dedicated to a practical test where students will apply what they have learned by writing their own abstract for the experimental work they are currently involved in.

After the completion of the platform lectures, there will be a practical test as follows:

  1. production of the written material (abstract).

Text structure, quality, coherence and clarity of the abstract will be considered.
