Knowledge of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of the main kidney diseases  and of bio-technological techniques for their therapy.

Pathogenetic mechanisms and development of molecular therapies:

Alterations of the immune system responsible for glomerular and tubulo-interstitial damage, autoimmunity, mechanism of the immune complex deposition. Strategies for the induction of tolerance. Mechanisms of glomerular permeability.

Allotransplant:

molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the main clinical complications, theory and methodology for the development of techniques  aimed to induce a specific immuno-suppression, tolerance or to modify the organ immunogenicity.

- Xenotranplant:

antigens and molecular mechanisms involved in the rejection of a xenogenic transplant, theory and methodology for the development of techniques  aimed to improve the biocompatibility.

 -Regenerative medicine:

Resident and bone-marrow derived stem cells in the regeneration of the glomerular and tubular damage; stem cells and gene therapy, bioreactors.
